MONTCALM COUNTY, Mich. —

Residents of Maple Valley Township never thought their community of around 2,000 people in Montcalm County would be the subject of international news.

That was until a British news article about a township leader, and her alleged neo-Nazi husband, gained traction.

In August, The Guardian, a British news outlet, published the article “ Unmasked: the man behind one of the fastest growing far-right YouTube channels ”.

The article details the online presence of Jonathan Christopher “Chris” Booth, a self-described National Socialist whose YouTube channel, before being taken down for violating community guidelines, had millions of views. According to the Southern Poverty Law Center , National Socialism is a hate group and is linked to Nazism.
