LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - Lawsuits have been filed against the City of East Lansing, Police Chief Jennifer Brown, and Officer Andrew Lyon for an incident that happened in August as students celebrated the return to campus.

Lansing-based law firm Nova Law announced the suits Wednesday morning after what they call “the false arrest of two Black men during Michigan State University’s welcome week.”

Community members and leaders gathered in downtown East Lansing to show support for the two young men who were arrested.

“The law is the law, and you can’t do whatever you want. And we will see to it that justice is served. You will not harm another kid,” said Nadia Sellers, mother of one plaintiff.
