PALMER, Mass. (WWLP) - Recent rainfall has brought much-needed relief to western Massachusetts, improving drought conditions that have persisted through the summer and fall.
According to the latest U.S. Drought Monitor, most of Hampden County and southern Berkshire County have returned to normal conditions, while Hampshire County and northern Berkshire County remain abnormally dry. Franklin County and eastern Hampshire County are still experiencing moderate drought conditions.
"In the beginning of October we were pretty much well below average but then we caught up pretty fast toward the end of the month," said meteorologist Chris Bouzakis. "We still ended just a little bit below average, but pretty much average, it definitely helped."
