SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has announced that they have called and ordained a new apostle to the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.

Apostles in the Church are one of the presiding bodies for the Church and are directed by the First Presidency, which currently includes President Dallin H. Oaks and his two counselors. In total, there are three members of the first presidency and twelve members of the Quorum.

After President Russell M. Nelson passed away in September, Dallin H. Oaks was chosen to assume church leadership and the apostle D. Todd Christofferson was appointed to the First Presidency, leaving an open position in the Quorum of the Twelve.
