STATEWIDE — After months of negotiations, Northern Light Health and Anthem Insurance have reached a new agreement — ending uncertainty for thousands of Mainers who rely on both providers for health care coverage.
State officials responded Thursday, saying they’re relieved by the outcome but wish it had come sooner.
“I’m sad it took so long,” said Maine Governor Janet Mills. “I wish they’d done it a month ago. But I’m glad that they came back to the table and negotiated heavily last week and got it done.”
The two organizations failed to reach an agreement by their November 1 deadline, leaving thousands of Mainers unsure about the status of their insurance coverage — including Governor Janet Mills and Penobscot County State Senator Joe Baldacci, both of whom are state employees historica
