Cat found dead after fire in converted garage in Porterville

PORTERVILLE, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) - A cat was found dead after a fire broke out in a converted garage in Porterville Thursday morning, firefighters said.

On Thursday morning, the Porterville Fire Department, with assistance from the Tulare County Fire Department and the Cal Fire Tulare Unit, responded to a fire.

The structure fire was in the 100 block of North Kessing Street. When firefighters arrived, they found a garage that was converted into a living space with heavy fire inside.

Firefighters knocked down the fire and searched the home. All residents were able to escape safely without injury, but officials say that a cat was found dead inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
