Maybe the Toronto Blue Jays didn’t win, but a rare victory did occur for Sudbury sports fans last Saturday night.

You had to look twice — at least — to believe it, too.

Laurentian University’s men’s basketball team defeated the nationally ranked Carleton Ravens 61-51, dominating their hosts for three of four quarters.

Brice Fandio, a second-year point guard from Marseille, France, scored 26 points to lead LU against Carleton.

“They trust me to do the right play,” Fandio says. “Me personally, I’m always going to do what I can to help my team.”

He doesn’t feel anything special as the team’s win is what matters, he says.

“I think we just (went) in with the mentality of let’s play like there’s no tomorrow, give everything out there.”
