WASHINGTON — When a UPS plane crashed just beyond the runway of Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport Tuesday evening, sparking a massive fire, Todd Dunn started getting calls.

As head of the UAW Local 862, Dunn feared the worst for the approximately 1,800 people his union represents he estimated were working in the Ford Louisville Assembly Plant, at the edge of the airport property.

“It wasn't probably any more than 2,500 to 3,000 feet away, where it hit, from the back right corner of the plant,” Dunn told Spectrum News Thursday. “I was very, very much concerned and very emotional about it, still am, but I'm very blessed. I think we are all blessed that it did not hit that plant, because then there would've been even thousands of lives probably lost.”
