HIGH POINT, N.C. — As Veterans Day approaches, students at High Point University are learning that service doesn’t end when the uniform comes off.

Inside HPU’s new Bergman and Moore Veterans Law Clinic , law students are helping local veterans navigate the often confusing process of filing for disability benefits through the Department of Veterans Affairs.

“The clinic is to teach students how to advocate on behalf of the veterans and to serve veterans here in the community,” said Ashley Castillo , the clinic’s director and assistant dean of students at HPU’s School of Law. “The way that I describe it and how it operates is there is a classroom component and then there's the clinic component.”
