More people are seeking food resources at the Food Bank of Central and Northeast Missouri as the ongoing federal government shutdown disrupts Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits.

The Food Bank Market served 4,396 households, including 273 new households, in October. On Wednesday alone, the market served 339 households, including 20 new households, according to a news release Thursday.

The Food Bank is serving more people with fewer resources due to higher food costs, higher transportation costs, fewer donations and lower levels of USDA foods, according to the release. However, the community support has increased alongside the number of people seeking resources.
