PHOENIX — The Federal Aviation Administration announced Wednesday that it will reduce air traffic by 10% across 40 “high-volume” markets to maintain safety during the ongoing government shutdown. Sky Harbor is on a list of airports that are affected, according to the Associated Press.

The cuts will start to take effect on Friday. Travelers should check with their airlines to see if their flight has been cut.

By departures, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport is the 14th busiest airport in the United States, boarding roughly 23.8 million passengers a year. 2024 was the busiest year in Sky Harbor's history with 52,325,266 passengers coming through its terminals — both departing and arriving — throughout the year.
