GOODYEAR, Ariz. — A Valley woman who was scammed out of nearly $10,000 on her 70th birthday in October got her money back thanks to a new Arizona law.
Gale Barr, who recently came out of retirement and went back to work in the medical field to help pay for her son's medical treatments, got an express check in the mail for the entire $9,260 that she lost.
On her birthday, Oct. 15, she was finishing up a three-hour shift when she checked her voicemails, looking forward to listening to celebratory messages, when she was greeted with the following message:
"This is Chief Deputy Derek Elmore with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office. I'm trying to gain contact with a one Miss Gale Barr. Miss Barr, I have some important legal documents here from the Honorable Judge. Jennifer Zipps. This is
