DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC) - Along Westerfield Road, a simple setup of food-filled totes represents something much bigger for families in need.
Tammara Yates has created what she calls a curbside pantry, stocking meal kits daily that can feed a family. She pays for the food, snacks and drinks out of her own pocket.
“I grew up on welfare and snap benefits pretty much my entire life even into early adulthood,” Yates said. “My daughter passed away in 2012 and then my mom ended up passing away on Christmas Day. With everything going on with snap benefits, it made me think of my mom and my daughter so I did it to help other people in honor of them.”
Community response and philosophy
Yates said she started the project after seeing families struggle to put food on the table. She doesn’t worry abo
