The state government will invest $23 million in programs aimed at tackling youth crime and making regional communities safer.

NSW Premier Chris Minns announced the funding in Tamworth on Friday morning, alongside Police Minister Yasmin Catley and NSW Police Commissioner Mal Lanyon.

The funding will have two key priorities: to break the cycle of reoffending among young people on bail and prevent at-risk youth from entering the justice system in the first place.

The Premier said it's about giving local communities "the tools they need to turn things around for their young people".
