NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - A Metro councilman who serves on the city’s budget committee is criticizing the $165,000 spent to remodel Superintendent Adrienne Battle’s office suite, calling it a “vanity project” that undermines public trust.

Councilman Jordan Huffman, who represents Donelson and Hermitage, said he was unaware of the office renovation. A WSMV4 Investigation uncovered that remodel included building Battle a private bathroom, despite a women’s restroom located just outside her suite.

“Under no circumstance was this necessary. This was a vanity project,” said Huffman.

Huffman routinely checks bathroom conditions when visiting schools in his district, using the state of fixtures as an indicator of whether schools need funding.
