LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- Many Nevadans are hoping to get their SNAP benefits during the ongoing government shutdown.
The state reports that about 200,000 people had only half of their normal benefits loaded onto their EBT cards in November.
Families started lining up Thursday morning at the Neighborhood Recreation Center in North Las Vegas. By 10 a.m., the line was wrapped all the way around the building.
“You can tell by the line that there is a need and so as long as we can provide, we will be out here,” said North Las Vegas Mayor Pamela Goynes-Brown. “When we realized SNAP benefits were going to be cut off or cut, it’s our duty to make sure that our community remains healthy and remains whole.”
