LAS VEGAS (KLAS) -- More information surfaced on Thursday regarding the state's utility monopoly, NV Energy, overcharging customers.

The company overcharged tens of thousands of Nevadans by $65.5 million over the last two decades, according to comments filed with the Public Utility Commission of Nevada (PUCN) by NV Energy.

In May, the PUCN said it would launch an investigation into what it calls several “residential rate misclassifications” by NV Energy, according to documents filed with the state.

PUCN investigators discovered that NV Energy was overcharging tens of thousands of customers since as early as 2001, documents said.

Between April 1, 2017, and April 1, 2024, approximately 60,000 customers may have been overcharged over $17 million, according to documents.
