LAS VEGAS ( FOX5 ) — NV Energy estimates it overcharged customers in both Southern and Northern Nevada by more than $65 million between 2002 and 2024.
The public utility company released an updated estimate Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation into how the billing errors happened.
NV Energy initially acknowledged overcharging some 60,000 customers by around $17 million . A later audit revealed that it had overcharged another 20,000 customers the wrong rate. The company says it misclassified the homes of those billed incorrectly.
The Public Utilities Commission of Nevada says it’s looking into what went wrong and is deciding how reimbursements should happen.
