HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) -- It was just after 1:30 early Sunday morning, just north of Smith Mills. There, the tornado first touched down, that storm was moving northeast at 60 miles an hour. And that tornado crossed the Ohio River three times before hitting Ellis Park. When that tornado crossed the Ohio River for a third time, it just missed the Twin Bridges one mile to the west.

Ellis Park and the grandstand took a direct hit. But at this point, the tornado had strengthened to an EF2 packing winds of around 150 miles an hour. It didn't hit the buildings in the back, killing a few horses. A little after 2 a.m., the tornado, which was now about two football fields wide, crossed this field and hit Eastbrook Mobile home park.
