JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — It was a first for Johnson City commissioners Thursday, at least in recent memory — all five across a table from local reporters for a one-hour question and answer session.

Saying they hoped to meet with the media in this format every quarter or so, commissioners began by highlighting some of the city's current growth opportunities and initiatives.

Vice Mayor Jenny Brock called it "a chance to really talk, through you, to the public about some exciting changes that are going to occur in the city, the growth opportunities that we have." Those include a recent groundbreaking for a new Towne Acres Elementary school, an agreement for an estimated $66 million redevelopment of the former John Sevier Hotel and adjacent Downtown Centre, and a project to redevelop the
