BARRE, Vt. (ABC22/FOX44) - After two days of collecting and counting ballots, staff and students at Central Vermont Career Center learned Thursday that voters rejected the $149 million bond that would have given the district the funding necessary to build a new school.

In total, 5,751 people voted against the measure, and 3,873 were in favor of it; A 60-40 split across the district's 18 towns.

"I know some of our students really have been wondering what happened, and some of them are going to be a little heartbroken today," Superintendent Jody Emerson said in an interview Thursday before many students knew the results. "I guess I wasn't surprised, I knew it could go either way. When folks kept asking me this week, 'What do you think's gonna happen?' I really couldn't answer."
