SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — As winter approaches, experts are reminding homeowners that it may be time to start preparing their homes for the colder months.
The first priority when winterizing your home is to inspect the exterior thoroughly. Experts with the Institute for Business & Home Safety (IBHS) recommend checking your roof to ensure all shingles are intact. Additionally, make sure your gutters and downspouts are clear of leaves and debris to prevent blockages.
"So now is the time to prepare," said Jake Sorber, the research meteorologist for IBHS. "It's always the time to prepare. And at IBHS, we like to say start with the roof. So you know what's on your roof. What kind of roof cover do you have? What's the condition that it's in? Is it prone to leaking? Know what's on your roof."
