ROSELAND, La. —
The Louisiana Attorney General, The Environmental Protection Agency, and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality have filed a civil complaint against Smitty's Supply in Roseland, Louisiana, following an explosion that resulted in a massive amount of oil being discharged across the parish.
On Aug. 22, an explosion was reported at the site, discharging oil into the Tangipahoa Parish River as well as nearby lakes. Advertisement
Oil was also seen on cars and homes across the parish.
Smitty's Supply blamed the explosion on a defective thermal fluid heater as well as negligent installation and maintenance.
According to the civil complaint, the agencies are seeking damages due to the cost incurred from the explosion as well as years-long violations.
