CCTV images have been released of two men police believe are linked to the fatal shooting of a 21-year-old man in Melbourne's north in July.

Athan Boursinos was shot dead shortly before 9am on Thursday, July 31, in Wollert, 26km north of the Melbourne CBD.

Mr Boursinos was allegedly approached by unknown males in a laneway behind a Champions Parade residential address before being shot several times.

He was declared dead at the scene.

Victoria Police have received information to suggest the murder was sanctioned by a NSW-based organised crime syndicate, with the offenders believed to have travelled to Melbourne from NSW days before the killing.
