The New Mexico Legislature will be back in Santa Fe for a one-day special session Monday to extend state food aid amid the federal government shutdown, Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham announced Thursday afternoon.

Lawmakers will convene at noon Monday at the state Capitol.

The state distributed $30 million in food aid Nov. 1 as a stopgap measure, designed to last until Nov. 10. That money came out of an emergency fund .

The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program was suspended during the shutdown, and although federal judges have ordered the Trump administration to pay the food benefits for November, the timing and amount of the distributions remain unclear.

The state-funded benefits released Saturday covered around 30% of SNAP beneficiaries' monthly benefits.
