CLEVELAND — Exactly three months before the start of the Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics, the USA Hockey Women's National Team opened its 2025 Rivalry Series campaign with some hometown heroics and a win over Canada in Cleveland Thursday night.
Buoyed offensively by an Abbey Murphy hat trick and four goal involvements from Taylor Heise, the Americans cruised to a 4-1 decision in front of around 7,000 fans inside Rocket Arena, the home of the Monsters and Cavaliers .
The United States trailed 1-0 10 minutes into the first period after Sara Fillier opened the scoring for Canada, but answered only seconds later courtesy of Heise and an assist from Northeast Ohio native Laila Edwards.
"Queen of Cleveland, that's what we've been calling her all week," Heise said of Edwards after the game.
