PORTLAND, Ore. — The line for food grew outside of a Northwest Portland pantry on Thursday. It was Shelley's first time visiting the William Temple House, she said.

"I am hoping to get some food just to kind of keep me going until I can get a job," Shelley said. "I just paid rent and have $22 left in the bank."

Shelley just qualified for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, late last month, but then, with a federal government shutdown dragging on for weeks — now the longest shutdown in U.S. history — the Trump administration ceased food stamp funding.

For SNAP recipients, November benefits have not come at all. And despite commitments from the Trump administration to provide at least partial funding , there's been no timeline on when that might come.
