MONROE, La. (KNOE) -The Ouachita Parish Republican Women’s Club proved once again that a little generosity can go a long way. At their annual scholarship luncheon today, the club celebrated 40 years of supporting first-generation college students at the University of Louisiana Monroe. A tradition that has helped fund one to two scholarships each year since the 1980s.
This year, two ULM students were awarded $5,000 each through the club’s continuous fundraising and annual luncheons.
The scholarship is available exclusively to first-generation college students — those whose parents or guardians have not earned a college degree and is awarded based on financial need and academic merit.
