AUSTIN, Texas — For the second time in the last week, a mosquito trap in Hays County has tested positive for West Nile Virus.

The Hays County Health Department received confirmation on Thursday that a mosquito trap sample in the 78676 ZIP Code in Wimberley tested positive for the virus. The sample was collected on Nov. 4.

County officials said this marks the first positive trap of the 2025 season.

Officials said there was a total of nine positive West Nile Virus mosquito traps during the 2024 season.

Throughout the state, DSHS has reported a total of 3,314 positive mosquito traps during the 2024 season.

So far this year, DSHS has reported 1,243 mosquito traps across the state that have tested positive for the virus.
