GREENSBORO, N.C. — There are an estimated 1.1 million college students on SNAP in the country, but even more are eligible. Meaning there are a lot of college students, even here locally, possibly facing hunger. Colleges are being proactive, but it’s hard to keep up.
Sherelle Wooford told me just two weeks ago the Aggie Source Pantry shelves were nearly bare. It’s now restocked, but for how long? Because every day, dozens of North Carolina A&T students walk through these doors, looking for one simple thing: enough food to make it through the week.
“Now we do have a nice amount of items here but it a consistent demand, anytime you have anywhere from 40, 50, to almost 80 students we are starting to see per day,” said Sherelle Wooford.
