ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) - On Tuesday night, democrats across Monroe County swept local elections, turning many towns who were traditionally under republican leadership.
One town in which that is the case is Perinton, where in the Town Supervisor race, Jennifer Townsend (D) is the projected winner with 55% of the counted votes as of Thursday night. She takes the lead over incumbent Ciaran Hanna (R), who currently has 44% of the counted votes.
In an interview with News 8, Townsend expressed why she believes this to be a victory for all of Perinton.
"It is very exciting to be the first woman [in the role], and first democrat in over 100 years," Townsend said. "With that comes a lot of responsibility, so now I have to deliver."
