MCLEAN COUNTY ( 25News Now ) - As families struggle to find their next meal while SNAP benefits are paused, some McLean County school districts are stepping up, trying to help during hard times.
Late Thursday afternoon, a federal judge in Rhode Island ordered SNAP benefits to be delivered by Friday . The Trump administration had stated that it could take weeks to get partial funding.
Still, many students rely on meals at school to fill up. To that end, McLean County Unit District 5 administrators sent out a list of resources to help families in need. The district is also opening their pantry up to families at Kingsley Junior High, hoping to increase pantry days to twice a month.
Superintendent Dr. Kristen Weikle said last week, the once full pantry was busier than usual.
