BOSTON —
Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman has officially opted out of his three-year, $120 million contract with the Boston Red Sox, as expected.
ESPN's Jeff Passan reported that Bregman officially made the move Monday. The 31-year-old could not officially become a free agent until after the World Series ended.
The two-time World Series champion signed a three-year, $120 million deal with Boston during the spring. He was a key piece of the team that helped the Sox return to the playoffs for the first time in four years.
Bregman, who is a Scott Boras client, is now looking for a bigger deal, whether in Boston or elsewhere.
Bregman hit .273 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs for the Sox in 2025. He missed seven weeks with a quad injury, the second serious leg injury of his career.
