Falmouth residents may be shocked to learn that much of the land in Falmouth they assume to be conserved forest may not be protected by modern formal legal mechanisms. Decisions, based on information containing apparent clerical errors, have resulted in multiple proposals from the town government to develop portions of this land.
Falmouth is the only town on Cape Cod that has a surface drinking water supply. Long Pond, which supplies 60% to 80% of the town’s drinking water, is a unique asset. Having a surface water supply makes us more resilient to a changing climate than our neighboring towns, which rely on groundwater vulnerable to saltwater intrusion and contamination.
