CENTER POINT, Ala. —
At Huffman Middle School, students are engaging in unconventional learning experiences, hoping to spark an interest in STEM.
"Fall into Math" was held Thursday evening for students and their families.
They had gathered to solve math problems, explore laboratory equipment, coding, scientific theory and much more.
School and district leaders believe introducing students to new experiences will open their minds to new experiences.
While STEM was the focus, the event it was all centered around mathematics. Jacqueline Nicholas leads strategy and innovation for Birmingham City Schools. She said some students may have experienced trauma previously dealing with math, which could have caused them to shy away from the subject.
