The Senior Resident Magistrate’s Court in Lilongwe is today expected to deliver a ruling on a bail application filed by 11 suspects accused of violent robberies and property damage in Mbowe, Lilongwe.

The group faces nine charges each, including robbery with violence and malicious damage. During earlier proceedings, the State opposed the bail request, arguing that releasing the suspects would not serve the interests of justice due to the gravity of the offenses.

However, the defense countered that the police have repeatedly violated the suspects’ constitutional rights, including the right to be brought before a court within a reasonable time.

The ruling on the application is scheduled for 10 a.m. today.
