A 26-year-old man, identified as Nickson Nkhoma, has died after being attacked by a crocodile at Jalo area in Likoma District on Wednesday night.
The area is known as a docking point for MV Illala and other boats that ferry passengers to and from Nkhata Bay.
Likoma Police spokesperson, Andrew Kusimbwa, confirmed the incident, saying the victim’s body was found around 10 a.m. today (Thursday).
“The body has since been taken to St. Peter’s Hospital in Likoma for postmortem,” said Kusimbwa.
He has since warned residents against swimming or walking close to the lake, especially at night or during this hot season when crocodile attacks are common.
The late Nickson Nkhoma hailed from Kapeta Village, Traditional Authority Santhe in Kasungu District, and was unmarried.
