At a tow yard in Massapequa, New York, employees were carrying out their usual work one March day when something completely unexpected stopped them in their tracks.

As the team got ready to dismantle a damaged car, they opened the trunk and were stunned by what they saw inside.

Nestled together for warmth were five tiny kittens, estimated to be around two weeks old. They appeared weak and confused, waiting for a mother who was nowhere to be found.

The caring workers gently lifted the newborns from the trunk and placed them in a box to keep them safe.
