The Morris County Open Space Trust Fund Committee is directing nearly $7 million to the purchase and preservation of almost 200 acres of land, including a coveted tract near downtown Denville.
The committee's annual Open Space Grant recommendations were presented on Nov. 5 to the Board of County Commissioners, which typically votes to authorize the suggestions at its next public meeting, which in this case would be on Dec. 3.
The bulk of this year's awards — $5.7 million — would fund a St. Francis and Pocono Field Preservation Project proposed by Denville. The initiative includes the purchase of the 17-acre property formerly occupied by the St. Francis Residential Community on the north side of Pocono Road. The Pocono Field property on the south side would also be preserved.
