At 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11, Andy MacLeod started to run. By the time he stopped, MacLeod had vertically traversed the entire state of Massachusetts (plus some of New Hampshire).
He ran 100 miles in just over 27 hours — and he did so eating nothing but bar pizza from Town Spa in Stoughton along the way .
MacLeod, a hiker-turned-ultramarathoner, was participating in the Mid State Massive — a trail race where competitors run either 50 kilometers, 50 miles or 100 miles. The Norwood man opted for the longest of the options, a distance that eclipsed his previous longest race — western Pennsylvania's Laurel Highland Ultra — by 30 miles.
MacLeod, 39, crossed the finish line 27 hours, 6 minutes and 9 seconds after he began his journey. That time was good enough for a 22nd-place finish o
