Almost 400 workers across 20 outlets at Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas are preparing to go on strike if their employers and Culinary Workers Union Local 226 can’t reach a contract deal by the end of next week.

The airport shops include national chains like Wendy’s and Jamba Juice, but also the locally owned Bagelmania in Terminal 1.

The union has been able to resolve contracts for the “bulk” of the 2,000 people Culinary represents at the airport in the past year, Culinary Secretary-Treasurer Ted Pappageorge said, but 20 employers there have “refused to settle contracts for almost four years.”

Many of the workers, some of whom picketed Wednesday morning near the airport’s departure curb, have not received any wage increases during that time, Pappageorge said.
