NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – One of the nation’s largest manufacturers – and one of the Lowcountry’s biggest employers – is breaking ground on an expansion project at its North Charleston campus.
Boeing South Carolina will reveal its new facility that will be utilized to expand the 787 Dreamliner program during a special event held on Friday afternoon.
The company announced last year that the 787 Dreamliner program would increase production to a rate of 10 airplanes per month by 2026.
Details about the expansion and increased production are set to be revealed during a formal event happening around noon.
Boeing currently employs more than 7,800 people in the Lowcountry, and that number is expected to grow over the next five years with this expansion.
