NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) -- South Carolina Boeing broke ground on an expansion project Friday that will increase their production rate and create jobs.
Boeing in one of the largest manufactures in the country and one of the biggest employers in the Lowcountry.
The expansion will help meet the growing market demand for 787 Dreamliners.
"This state is unique. Leaders from all over the world come to South Carolina to hire the people in this audience, to hire South Carolinians," said Governor Henry McMaster.
Boeing's expansion will increase the production rate to 10 planes per month. Right now, there is a nearly 1000 plane backlog, including 300 orders this year. South Carolina is the only place in the world where 787 Dreamliners are manufactured from start to finish.
