Middlesbrough have rejected Wolverhampton Wanderers’ approach to speak to manager Rob Edwards on the eve of their game with Birmingham City.

Edwards has emerged as Wolves’ preferred target to replace the sacked Vitor Pereira in the Molineux dugout and an approach was made to Middlesbrough on Thursday.

Boro quickly shunned Wolves’ advances and are reportedly adamant that Edwards is going nowhere.

Edwards played for Wolves and is highly rated by the club’s hierarchy having started his coaching career at Molineux.

He coached Wolves’ under-21s between 2018 and 2020 and he enjoyed one interim spell in charge of the first team in 2016.
