Budget retailer Lidl is preparing to roll out scan and shop technology in a bid to accelerate the checkout experience for shoppers. ‌

The German chain has lodged a trademark application throughout Europe and Britain for "Lidl and Go" which covers digital payment systems. This includes customer-operated electronic terminals, according to The Grocer . ‌

Lidl, which operates 980 outlets across the UK, confirmed the fresh feature would use the "Lidl Pay" brand and integrate with the store's loyalty scheme app – Lidl Plus. The system functions as a digital wallet and mobile payment service built into the Lidl Plus application. ‌
