RANKIN CO., Miss. (WLBT) - A standoff in Rankin County ended with the suspect, a wanted suspect from Nebraska, dying from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to the Rankin County Sheriff’s Department.
The incident occurred at a home on Shell Oil Road near Wade Patrick Road.
The Rankin County Sheriff’s Department had received a request for assistance from the United States Marshal’s Service in this case at approximately 5:40 p.m.
When officers attempted to make contact at the scene, the suspect fired shots and ran inside a house. All residents inside the home managed to escape safely, according to Sheriff Bryan Bailey.
Later, Bailey said, law enforcement flew a drone inside the home and found the suspect on a bedroom floor.
