A nine-month-old baby boy has tragically died following an attack by a family dog in Rogiet, South Wales. Emergency services were alerted to the incident at around 6pm on Sunday. Upon arrival, they pronounced the infant dead at the scene.

Gwent Police have confirmed that two individuals from Rogiet have been arrested. They are suspected of being in charge of a dog that was dangerously out of control, resulting in injury that led to the baby's death. The pair have since been released on police bail as investigations continue.

The dog involved in the incident is a six-year-old XL bully. It was registered with the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), and a certificate of exemption was issued in 2024.

Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend stated, "The arrests were made as part of a wide range of enquiries that officers are carrying out to understand the circumstances of the death. These enquiries are still ongoing, and so you will continue to see officers in the area."

She urged the public to refrain from speculation, particularly on social media, as it could affect the ongoing investigation and the criminal justice process. Townsend added, "If you have any information, including information on the dog involved – a male, black XL bully – and its previous behaviour, please contact us directly instead."
