Trinamool Congress MP Kalyan Banerjee has lost over ₹56 lakh in a cyber fraud involving his old bank account. According to police, the fraudster used fake PAN and Aadhaar cards to update KYC details and change the registered mobile number linked to the account on October 28, 2025.

After gaining full access, the scammer made several unauthorised internet banking transactions, withdrawing ₹56.39 lakh. The State Bank of India filed a complaint with Kolkata Police’s Cyber Crime Branch.

The account was opened during Banerjee’s tenure as an MLA from Asansol South (2001–2006) at the SBI Assembly sub-branch, where his allowances were deposited at the time.
