The Rhode Island Marine Archaeology Project (RIMAP) team recently hosted visitors from the Australian chapter of the Captain Cook Society (CCS) who visited the RIMAP artifact management facility on the campus of the Herreshoff Marine Museum. Of special interest to the CCS members were RIMAP's ongoing studies of the two ships that carried the great 18th-century British explorer on his various voyages around the world, and that ended their days in Newport Harbor. The five CCS visitors from various US states were interested in Cook's personal history, his voyages, and especially RIMAP's historical and archaeological studies of the ships in Newport.
