Farmington Public Schools are closed Friday after an incident disrupted the district’s internet and phone service.

The district announced the closure late Thursday. Officials said an automobile accident caused damage to a fiber optic cable.

“This damage has disrupted portions of our network operations including internet and phone services, which are essential for instruction, communication, and safety,” Farmington Public School said in a message posted to the district’s website and shared on social media.

The district said repair crews were working to restore service as quickly as possible.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the outage could affect the schools into next week. Farmington Public Schools said it would notify families when school operations
